When I first began doing the Sure Shot and Difference Radio shows from my West Philly bedroom, I felt like I had all the time in the world on my side. I was kinda busy then, working a day job, on and off, DJing one gig a week and a few one offs here and there. Now I find myself to be knee-deep in work most of the time. I have gigs a lot more often and even without a day job, I have a laundry list of projects that need completion and very little time to make it happen. At least, that’s what I’ve led my self to believe lately. For any of our regular listeners who may be reading this, please know that I think of doing this show every single day and if I were being compensated, I would try my very best to give you all a daily dose of joints. Instead, I’m forced to chase money in other places and get to this when I can. This week, I made the decision, that I would cut back on the length of time, I spend dedicating to the Sure Shot mix for two simple reasons. One, I tend to overcompensate with lengthy mixes of all new joints since my consistency is lacking and making a shorter mix will put me in the position where I am feenin’ to give you all some new ish more often. The second reason is that most people only have about 30 – 40 minutes of actual listening time to dedicate to a mix they realllllly like. Let alone the folks who aren’t necessarily die hards.
This week at one of our Illvibe residencies, we all found ourselves in the booth at the loft, looking at each other with the gas face when my hard drive decided to not show up for work. We (especially me) were flabergasted at the fact that in nearly 4 years of serato usage, I’ve gone through about 5 drives and 3 apple crashes. No one else in my crew seems to experience such a regularity in dissappointment with technology. In the midst of trying to pull some things together for the Sure Shot,I was able to revive my drive and drag some files over to a new drive and make it happen. I hope you all enjoy. I thought of doing something really special for edition 40 since numerically, it seems like a cake or something is in order but instead I’ll hold my efforts for the 50th show. Who knows what will happen on that day.
At any rate, it has been a true pleasure and blessing being stopped in places across the globe, from Australia to Berlin to Holland and so on by regular listeners of our radio shows who ask when the next update is coming. My answer has been and continues to be that we will continue to try our best to give you guys something fresh and quality to listen to.
